Introduction

Business education is the nucleus around which all socio – economic activities evolve. The equip the youth of this region with requisite knowledge and skill to cater to the needs of job market and encourage entrepreneurship, the H.K.E. Society felt it necessary and established Arts and Commerce degree education in Chincholi in the year 1983. The department of commerce established in July 1984 with Shri. B.M. Biradar and strengthened by devoted and ideal teachers Prof. M.S. Patil, Prof. B.B.Saradgi and Prof. S.A. Patil.

                   Dr Laxman.T, Miss. Soundarya.M.Desai and Miss. Swathi.J.Reddy took much interest in popularizing the subject and created much interest in the students about the subject of commerce. The Department of Commerce is provided with enough classrooms and has the required infrastructural facilities. From the academic year 2003-04, Gulbarga University Gulbarga introduced Indian constitution as compulsory paper for the first year B.A. and B.Com students, with the intentions to make use students aware of their fundamental rights and duties, organs of the Govt. Special provisions for Children, Minorities and others.

 The program is designed to provide strong foundation skills required in administering the corporate Core functions such as Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Taxation, Marketing, Human Resource, supply chain management and Business Analytics, including exposure to logical skills in these areas. The program is a mix of traditional and new-age subjects designed in a way that students can develop business and digital skills, financial literacy and managerial skills.

As per National Education Policy (NEP-2020), the program involves eight semesters based on CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) Model involving Ability Enhancement Courses, Core courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, Vocational courses and open electives.

Conduct of classes:-

                   The classes of B.Com 1st semester will be started soon after the first round admissions. B.Com 3rd and 5th semester year classes are started within a week of the reopening of the college.

Orientation:-

                   First year students are introduced about the society, college and syllabus through welcome function, which will be held in the last week of July or first week of August every year. This programme is introduced in a methodical manner from the academic year 2003-04 to till now.

Regular Classes:-

                   Regular classes are held throughout the academic year. The medium of instructions is both in English and Kannada, but most of the students prefer Kannada medium as they are coming from arrounding villages who’s mother tongue is Kannada and they write examination in Kannada. A month – wise lesson plan is chalked out to teach the entire syllabus in gradual and concrete way. Care is taken to guide students regarding the pattern of question paper, allocation of marks and scheme of evaluation.

Attendance:-

                   The attendance of students to classes is compulsory and the students who fail to comply with 75% attendance are warned is writing and their parents are informed through principal.

Student’s evaluation:-

                   All the teachers in the department firmly believe that “students are our best Judges”. On the occasion of “Farewell Function” outgoing students are given an opportunity to express their candid opinion about their teachers, college facilities etc. The frank opinion of students is taken in the right spirit.

                   Performance appraisal of teachers by students will be introduced in a methodical way from the academic year 2003-04 to still now. Students will be made to express their opinion in writing about each teacher in a set format. In order to maintain secrecy, the choice is left to the students in disclosing their identity.

Faculty improvement activities:-

                   The faculty members in the department do not miss opportunities of participating in seminars workshops, conference and refresher courses to up to date their knowledge in their subject of late TQM programmes organized by the department of higher education were of immense help in understanding the significance of qualitative teaching in the context of intense of competition in the field of higher education.

  • To transform students into future leaders and entrepreneurs through holistic training programmes inculcating right values to attain self-reliance.
  • To prepare students for pursuit of higher education that will propel them to become business entrepreneurs or managers with core competencies.
  • To develop entrepreneurship abilities and managerial skills in students, so as to enable them effectively manage their own business.
  • To provide world-class learning experience in the field of Commerce which enables the students to face the global challenges and prepare them to develop right attitude towards their work and life.
  • To provide industry focused training.
  • To inculcate values in the personality of students.
  • To cater to manpower requirements of companies, in the fields of Accounting, Taxation, Banking, Finance, Marketing, Law and Management.

With a comprehensive program structure and curriculum, the students of this program have extensive job opportunities in the field of Accounting, Finance, Governance, Insurance, Banking field, Taxation, Risk Management, and Wealth Management. They can exercise roles of Finance and Accounting Managers within companies, Budgeting Managers, Investment Managers, Costing Manger, Payable Managers or Receivable Managers, Portfolio/Fund Managers, Financial Controllers, Treasurers, Tax analyst and Chief Finance Officers.
